HP 2133 Written Reviews
The Mini-note has received mostly positive reviews with the major points being the big, bright screen, fullsize keyboard, and reasonable price. The single biggest issue with it though is the Via processor HP went with that makes the 2133 run a little slow. For now it’s the sacrifice you’ll have to make to get the best compromise of power, price and battery life.
HP 2133 Mini-note Laptop Review List
hip mini from the forums “So to sum up, I really like with the device. In fact it does most everything i would want future versions to do, i would just want future versions to have more cpu/3d power and less heat/watts and longer battery as result… usability wise i’m already there.”
Geeky Habitat Review “Overall I have to say that I am extremely happy with my HP 2133 MiniNote, if you are looking for something that you can take notes on, surf the web, check your email on and do other day to day office and study tasks the MiniNote is a brilliant buy.”
ageary from our forums “I’m really happy with my new toy, I can actually forsee myself using it in cafes or on holidays to hold photos, where as with a normal sized laptop it quickly becomes a burden to drag it around.”
CNN.com Review ” The 2133’s greatest asset is its unique keyboard, which manages to fit in full-size keys by eliminating dead space on the keyboard tray, but we’re less enamored of the pokey Via processor, especially when Intel’s Atom CPUs, seemingly designed specifically for systems like this, are right around the corner. Still, the HP 2133 Mini-Note works well enough for basic Web surfing and office productivity tasks, and it’s quickly become our new favorite pick-up-and-go laptop.”
Tom’s Guide Review “The battery life and performance might be underwhelming, and the price isn’t the very lowest you can pay for a UMPC, but what you’re paying for here is a solid combination of features that matter in a portable computer. It has a full set of ports, a version of Wi-Fi that will work everywhere you go, a real (shock-resistant) hard drive and a full, familiar operating system. Most important of all, the excellent keyboard that means you can do real work when you carry the MiniNote with you, and if you spill your coffee on the keyboard it should survive.”
jkOnTheRun Review “I think HP has a real winner on their hands with the Mini. I find it to be a capable notebook computer that is highly portable and the build quality is outstanding. I also find it impressive that the total price swing from entry level (with Linux) to fully loaded is only $250 and there is no question in my mind that the Mini is the best built UMPC at this price level. I wish HP had put an Intel processor instead of the Via but that is probably my long-time prejudice against the Via rather than any actual observed issue.”
NotebookReview.com Review “The HP 2133 Mini-Note is one of the most impressive subnotebooks we’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, the amazing design and solid range of features are diminished by a sub-par processor and a price tag that places this notebook dangerously close to far superior 12-inch notebooks such as the HP tx2000. HP managed to create the single most impressive ultraportable notebook on the market … and then decided to put a lackluster processor inside.“
PC Magazine Review “Although the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC is not quite the ASUS Eee PC killer, it’s still a force to be reckoned with in the ultra-mobile space. It blows past the HTC Shift, the Fujitsu LifeBook U810, and the Samsung Q1 Ultra, with a superior design that’s both functional and alluring. Though performance could use a boost, the Mini-Note is perfectly capable of handling various workloads as long as you load the right operating system.“
LAPTOP Magazine Review “While it’s somewhat bigger and pricier than other mini-notebooks, the HP 2133 Mini-Note offers a few features that the others don’t, including an adult-size keyboard and a design more suited to business users. If all you need is a low-cost laptop that can run Windows, you may want to wait for the 9-inch version of the Eee PC. But if you require more from your mini-notebook and don’t mind paying for it, the HP 2133 Mini-Note delivers the goods.“
Notebooks.com Review “The HP 2133 Mini-Note is not the cheapest compact notebook you can buy, but it is the best value hands down. While other notebooks in this category look and feel like they should be sold at Toys R Us, the 2133 comes across as a serious business computer at a price that’s unbelievable.”
GottaBeMobile Review “While the strengths of the HP 2133 are its mobility, functionality, and configurability, I do have a few niggles. I’m not a fan of the trackpad. Designed to mirror the wide-screen display it is too wide for my tastes and working with the two buttons I’m clumsy at best.”
CNet Review “Despite an underpowered CPU, the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC offers the best balance of small size, comfort, and functionality we’ve seen in a mininotebook, making it fast a favorite for on-the-go use.”
PC World Review “What it doesn’t deliver is peak performance…But, if you ask me, using it in this small laptop is a big mistake. The system we received came installed with Vista Business and while hardly dog-slow, it was no speed demon, either. “
