HP 2133 Mini-Note

News roundup

Another busy day for the Mini family…

The 2133 Mini-Note Will See an Update in 2009

Those of you that are worried the Mini 1000 is set to replace the 2133 Mini-Note can sigh in relief. Xavier at notebooks.com confirmed with an HP rep that the 2133 has not reached it’s end of life yet, and should see an update soon. During the Mini 100’s virtual press conference the HP reps also confirmed this was not the end of life cycle for the 2133.

Would you like a Mini 1000 with your wireless plan?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that HP is working with cell carriers to bundle cheap netbooks with wireless data plans in an effort to reach more consumers. No one in the US bundles PC’s with wireless plans yet, so this should be interesting.

The Mini 1000 has a twin??

Yup, the Compaq Mini 700, which I swore I mentioned in a forum post somewhere but can’t find, is official.  While they seem identical Pocket-lint is reporting some differences between the two, and possibly even differences between the US Mini 1000 and the UK Mini 1000. Pocket-lint says the Mini 700 will have a 10.2″ screen, while the Mini 1000 will only have a 10.1″ screen. The specs for the US release say the Mini 1000 should have a 10.2-inch screen. Hmm…

Are you sure that the HP 2133 Mini Note isn’t being discontinued? The 2133 is no longer on the HP website unless they’ve cleverly hidden it until distribute the mini 1000 or they issue a refreshed 2133. So I got a 2133 before they disappeared since the 2133 is also listed as discontinued at Best Buy and Frys.

It’s still on HP’s site for the time being. Just do a search at hp.com. It’s not on shopping.hp.com though, but it never has been because that’s their consumer portal, and the 2133 is business/educational
