HP 2133 Mini-Note

VIA Announces Nano (Isaiah) Processors

Isaiah is finally here, new name and all. VIA has published a press release announcing the Nano family of processors. Initially there will be two “Low Voltage” and three “Ultra Low Voltage” versions of the Nano:

VIA Nano (Isaiah) SKU table

With three processors under 10w TDP, I wouldn’t think it unreasonable to see a sub-notebook with a Nano in it. Even the 1.0Ghz should out perform the 1.6Ghz C7-M while consuming less power. Seeing these numbers really makes me wonder why Richard Brown said that Isaiah “is intended for higher-priced 12″ to 14″ systems” and has no plans to use it in mini notebooks any time soon. I guess that means either it costs too much right now for a sub $500 netbook, they were bluffing for some reason, or he just didn’t know about something he probably should have.

Starting on page 12 of the whitepaper they have different benchmarks showing the Nano schooling the C7-M:

Table showing VIA\'s Nano vs C7-M office productivity apps benchmarks

Table showing VIA\'s Nano vs C7-M in multimedia benchmarks

Table showing VIA\'s Nano vs C7-M in synthetic benchmarks

Table showing VIA\'s Nano vs C7-M performance per watt

The Nano’s higher performance per watt measurement should help offset the its higher TDP.

For more information see the Nano’s whitepaper and the new pages on Via’s site.

Any ideas on what the first device will be to carry a new Nano chip?

Looks like great news for Via… Though they’re still lacking to compete in the current duopoly of Intel/AMD, in that they have no dual/multi cored CPUs available still.

Considering you can get a dual cored Intel for the same TDP in some cases, the only thing that *could* be going for Via is price.

Don’t get me wrong, this is most certainly a step in the right direction, but it is far from a revolution as yet.

As far as integration into the Mini-note goes - yeah, we could see that happen this year, but i dare say that HP have committed to a certain number of C7-m’s, and will continue the current mini-note line until that contract is out.

After that happens, and we see the second revision of the mini-note, we could see improvements like a touch-screen, bigger SSD’s, alternate CPU, etc etc.

I think THAT is the most likely scenario, that the second revision of the Mini-note will include the ‘nano’.

grrr I don’t have time to wait. I need a Laptop BAD…and its going to be either the current Mini note, MSI, or whatever that new Dell is we’re hearing about.

I for one am excited to hear about the new Dell. I want the new EeePC 901 but these screen resolutions are just killing me. Hoping Dell will pull thru with a better LCD.

Compatible with C7? Is there any chance I could just buy an U2300 or U2500 and replace the 1.6ghz C7-M in my 2133 with one of these?

    @2133 Owner
Yes, they’re compatible with the C7 line, but they use a special soldering process called Ball Grid Array which requires special equipment to solder and de-solder
